What are keyword alerts in Facebook groups?
Keyword alerts are a Facebook group admin tool that notifies admins and moderators when a post or comment in their group includes a word or phrase they chose. Admins use them to spot spam, banned topics or heated discussions quickly, without reading every comment.
How keyword alerts work
From the group’s admin tools, an admin adds words or phrases to watch. When a member uses one in a post or comment, admins get a notification and can review it. Alerts only flag content for a look. Automatic actions, like declining posts, live in Admin Assist, which can also use keywords.
Why they matter for businesses
In busy groups, a keyword alert is often how an admin finds a promotional post. Admins may watch for sales phrases, competitor names or topics the group does not allow. Matching a word does not remove your post, but it does mean a closer look, so make sure it follows the rules.
Write posts that pass a closer look
- Lead with value, not a sales phrase.
- Follow the group’s promotion rules every time.
- Avoid wording the rules call out.
- Keep the tone friendly and specific to the group.
- If you run a group, add alerts for scam phrases so you catch them early.
Can members see keyword alerts in a Facebook group?
No. Keyword alerts are set up in the admin tools, and only admins and moderators get the notifications. Members are not told which words are watched. The safest assumption is that admins see anything that looks promotional, so follow the posted rules and keep business posts in the format they allow.
What is the difference between keyword alerts and Admin Assist?
Keyword alerts notify admins so they can review a post or comment themselves. Admin Assist acts on its own, for example declining posts that match criteria the admin set. Many groups use both: alerts to watch for sensitive topics, and Admin Assist to handle the clear-cut cases automatically.
