What is post approval in a Facebook group?
Post approval is a Facebook group setting that sends member posts to admins for review before they go live. When it is on, each new post waits in a pending queue until an admin or moderator approves or declines it. Admins use it to keep groups on topic and free of spam.
How post approval works
Admins turn on post approval in the group’s settings. They can review every member post by hand, or combine approval with Admin Assist so some posts are approved or declined automatically. Members see a note that their post is pending. When admins decline a post, they can point to the rule it broke.
Why it matters for businesses
Groups with post approval are often well run, with engaged members and little spam, which makes them great places to be seen. The trade-off is that every promotional post gets a human read. Posts that respect the rules, add value and fit the group get approved; copy-paste ads usually do not.
Get approved the right way
- Match each group’s format and promotion rules.
- Write a version for each group, using spintax for variety.
- Keep links out of the post body if the group prefers.
- Plan time-sensitive posts early to allow for review.
- Check posting reports for declined posts and adjust.
Can I tell if a Facebook group has post approval on?
Often you only find out when your first post goes to pending. Some groups mention it in their rules or About section. Once you have posted, you can see the post’s status in the group as pending, published or declined. Note it per group so you know which ones review every post.
Does post approval hurt my reach?
Not once the post is approved. Approved posts appear in the group like any other. The main effect is timing, since approval can take hours. For time-sensitive offers, post a little earlier in those groups. Groups with approval are often the cleanest and most engaged, so they are worth the wait.
