What is spintax?

Spintax is a simple way to write options into a post, like {Hi|Hello|Hey neighbors}. Each time the post goes out, PilotPoster picks one option from every set of curly brackets, so each group gets slightly different wording with the same offer. Check yours in the free spintax tester before you post.

The composer: write your post with spintax options, then add photos and a first comment.

How does Spintax work in PilotPoster?

Write your post in the composer and put options in curly brackets, separated by a straight bar: {Fresh|Homemade|Just-baked} sourdough this Saturday. When the campaign runs, every group gets one option from each set, so the wording changes from group to group while everything outside the brackets stays exactly as you wrote it. Three sets of three options already give you 27 different versions of one post.

When to use Spintax

Use Spintax when you want full control of the wording: short posts, a fixed offer, or a brand voice you don’t want changed. Jenna Morris of Corner Crust Bakery in Dayton posts her weekend menu to eight local groups. She writes one post with a few options for the greeting, the item list and the call to action, and every group sees a slightly different, natural post with the same prices and the same pickup time. Saturday preorders fill up before Friday night.

A Spintax template you can copy

{Hi|Hey|Hello} {neighbors|everyone|friends}! {This weekend|This Saturday} we have {fresh sourdough|our famous sourdough|warm sourdough loaves} for $8. {Message me to reserve one|Comment below to save yours|Reply here to order}. Pickup 9 to 11am at Corner Crust Bakery.

Swap in your own product, price and pickup details, keep the brackets, and paste it into the spintax tester to preview every version. More ready-made templates are in our spintax guide.

Spintax or AI rewrite? Pick one per campaign

PilotPoster gives you two ways to send every group its own version of a post. Each campaign uses one of them: Spintax when you want to choose every word, AI rewrite when you want PilotPoster to write the versions for you.

FAQ

Common questions

More answers in the full FAQ.

How do I write spintax?

Put your options in curly brackets separated by a straight bar, like {Hi|Hello|Hey}. Add as many sets as you like. Everything outside the brackets stays exactly the same in every version.

Do I have to learn spintax to use PilotPoster?

No. If you’d rather not write options, choose AI rewrite for the campaign and PilotPoster’s AI writes a unique version for each group from the post you wrote.

Can I use Spintax and AI rewrite together?

No. Each campaign uses one or the other: Spintax when you want to control every word, AI rewrite when you want PilotPoster to write the versions for you.

How many versions can one spintax post make?

Multiply the options in each set. Three sets with three options each give 27 different versions, more than enough for a different post in every group.

How can I check my spintax before posting?

Paste it into the free spintax tester. It shows sample versions and flags missing brackets, so your campaign goes out clean.

Is Spintax included in PilotPoster?

Yes, in PilotPoster Pro: $47 a month (or $390 a year). Start with a 1-day trial for $0.
