How do you write a giveaway post on Facebook?
A Facebook giveaway post needs the prize, how to enter, who can enter, the closing date, and how the winner is picked and told. Ask for one simple action, like answering a question in the comments. Meta's promotion rules don't allow requiring people to share or tag friends to enter, so leave those out.
When to run a giveaway
Use a giveaway to start a conversation, celebrate a milestone or thank a group that has been good to you. Ask the admin first: many groups only allow giveaways with permission, and some run their own. Tie the prize to what you sell, like a free service or a product bundle, so the people who enter are people who could become customers.

Tips for a fair, rule-friendly giveaway
- Get the admin's okay before you post
- Ask entrants to comment, not to share or tag friends
- State eligibility, the closing date and the draw date
- Put the full rules in the first comment
- Pick the winner at random and say how
- Announce the winner in the same group
The promotion rules to follow
Meta's Pages, Groups and Events Policies (checked October 2026) ask anyone running a promotion to provide official rules, have entrants release Meta and acknowledge the promotion isn't associated with Meta, and not require people to share, repost or tag others to enter. Comment-to-enter giveaways fit those rules well. Local contest laws apply too, so check what applies where you are.
Announce it in every group that welcomes it
Once admins have said yes, PilotPoster can post your giveaway to each approved group you have joined, with a unique version for each one, and add the rules as an automatic first comment. Keep the approved groups in a saved list so the reminder goes to the same places.
Can I run a giveaway in a Facebook group?
Yes, if the group allows it. Ask the admin first, since many groups only allow giveaways with permission. Then follow Meta's promotion rules: publish official rules, say the promotion is not associated with Meta, and do not require sharing or tagging friends to enter. Comment-to-enter giveaways work well.
Is "tag a friend to enter" allowed on Facebook?
No. Meta's Pages, Groups and Events Policies say promotions should not require people to share, repost or tag others to enter. Ask entrants to comment with an answer to a question instead. It is allowed, it is easy to do, and the answers tell you what your audience actually cares about.
How do I pick a giveaway winner fairly?
Number the valid entries in the order they were posted, use a random number generator to pick one, and say in your rules that this is how you will do it. Announce the winner in the same group, message them directly, and set a reply deadline so you can redraw if they do not respond.
