What is a social media scheduler?

A social media scheduler is a tool that publishes posts to social networks at times you set in advance, from one dashboard. Most connect through each network’s official API. On Facebook that covers Pages but not groups, since Meta removed group publishing from its API in 2024.

What a social media scheduler does

  • Queues posts for future dates and times.
  • Publishes to several networks from one place.
  • Shows a calendar of planned content.
  • Reports on reach and engagement for supported accounts.

The Facebook groups gap

Because Meta’s API no longer allows posting into groups, general schedulers cannot reach the communities where many small businesses find customers. Facebook’s own scheduler covers only groups you admin. That leaves groups you joined as a member, which is where a dedicated Facebook group scheduler comes in.

Choose the right tool

For Facebook groups, use the tool built for them: PilotPoster posts from your own browser to every group you have joined, plus your profile and groups as your Page, with a unique version for each group. See how PilotPoster works.

FAQ

Common questions

More answers in the full FAQ.

Can social media schedulers post to Facebook groups?

Most cannot. API-based schedulers publish through Meta’s Graph API, which lost group publishing for all versions on April 22, 2024. They can still post to Facebook Pages. To schedule posts in groups you joined, use PilotPoster, which posts from your own browser.

What is the difference between a social media scheduler and an auto poster?

A scheduler queues posts for set times, usually across several networks through their APIs. An auto poster focuses on publishing for you, often at volume, and for Facebook groups it works from your browser. PilotPoster does both for groups: scheduling, recurring posts and organic publishing one group at a time.
