UTM link builder for Facebook groups

A UTM link builder adds tracking tags to a link so your analytics shows exactly where each visit came from. Pick the Facebook group preset, list your groups, and get one tracked link per group, ready to copy.

Existing query parameters and #anchors are kept.

Preset

3 tracked links, one per group

  • Plano Moms Swap and Recommendations

  • Collin County Home Projects

    https://example.com/spring-offer?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=group&utm_campaign=spring-offer&utm_content=collin-county-home-projects

  • Frisco Small Business Owners

    https://example.com/spring-offer?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=group&utm_campaign=spring-offer&utm_content=frisco-small-business-owners

In Google Analytics, these visits show up in Traffic acquisition under the source / medium you set. Add the manual ad content dimension to compare groups side by side.

How do I track clicks from Facebook group posts?

Add UTM tags to the link in each post: utm_source=facebook, utm_medium=group, a utm_campaign for the offer, and the group name in utm_content. Your analytics then shows visits from Facebook groups as one channel, with each group listed separately so you can see which ones send traffic.

How to use the UTM link builder

Paste a link, choose a preset, list your groups, copy.

  1. Paste your page URL

Use the exact page you want people to land on, such as an offer or booking page. Existing parameters and anchors are kept.

  2. Pick a preset

Facebook group post fills in source facebook and medium group. There are presets for the group first comment, profile and Page posts too.

  3. Name the campaign and list your groups

Give the campaign a short name, like spring-offer. Add one group name per line and each one becomes its own utm_content value.

  4. Copy the links

Copy one link at a time, or Copy all to get every group name with its link, ready for your notes or a spreadsheet.

A naming system you can stick to

UTM tracking only pays off when the names stay consistent. Keep utm_source as facebook for everything on Facebook, use utm_medium for where it was posted (group, profile, page), name utm_campaign after the offer or month, and save utm_content for the group. Lowercase with dashes, every time.

What each parameter answers

  • utm_source: which site sent the visit (facebook)
  • utm_medium: what kind of post (group, profile, page)
  • utm_campaign: which offer or push (spring-offer)
  • utm_content: which group or version (plano-moms)
  • utm_term: optional extra label, such as the service
  • Together: a clear row in your traffic report for every group

From clicks to results

Clicks are only half the story. Log the leads and sales each group brings in, then compare cost and effort per lead. Our guide to measuring Facebook group marketing ROI walks through it, and putting your link in the first comment keeps the post itself clean.

FAQ

UTM link questions

What UTM parameters should I use for Facebook group posts?

A simple, consistent set works best: utm_source=facebook, utm_medium=group, utm_campaign set to your offer or month, and utm_content set to the group name. That lets you see Facebook group traffic as one channel and still compare each group, without messy one-off values in your reports.

Why put the group name in utm_content?

Because the same post goes to many groups, and you want to know which ones send visitors. With the group name in utm_content, each group shows up as its own row in your analytics, so you can post more in the groups that work and fix or drop the rest.

Do UTM links work in Facebook groups?

Yes. A UTM link is a normal web address with a few extra tags at the end, so it opens like any link. If the long link looks messy, place it in the first comment or shorten it. Analytics reads the tags when someone lands on your site, whichever way they clicked.

Should UTM values be lowercase?

Yes. Most analytics tools treat “Facebook” and “facebook” as two different sources, which splits your numbers. This builder lowercases values and swaps spaces for dashes by default, so every link you create stays consistent with the last. Pick a naming style and keep using it.

Will UTM tags affect how my post performs?

No. The tags only tell your analytics where a visitor came from. Members see a slightly longer link, which is why many marketers post the link in the first comment or use a short link. The post itself reads the same, and the extra data shows which groups are worth your time.
