⚡ Quick Answer

A declined Facebook group post never went live: an admin, a moderator or the group's Admin Assist rules rejected it while it was pending. A removed post was live and then taken down, by an admin, by Admin Assist after enough reports, or by Facebook for breaking Community Standards. You are only told about an admin removal if the admin adds a note. Facebook removals show up in your Support Inbox, where you can request a review.

Your post was in the group's pending queue yesterday, and today it is gone. Or it was live, collected a few comments, and then vanished. Both feel the same, but they are different decisions made by different people, and the fix depends on which one happened.

This guide uses Meta's own Help Center to explain what a Facebook group post declined or removed really means, who decided, what you are told, and how to post so it sticks next time, in one group or in fifty.

What's the Difference Between a Declined and a Removed Post? #

Declined means rejected before anyone saw it; removed means taken down after it was published. A declined post came from the pending posts queue, so it only happens in groups that review posts. A removed post was visible to members, so it can happen in any group. There are five ways it can go:

What happenedWho decidedDo you get told?Where to look
Declined by an adminAn admin or moderator reviewing the queueOnly if they chose to give feedbackDeclined section of your content in the group
Declined by Admin AssistRules the admins set in advanceOnly if the rule includes a message to the authorDeclined section of your content in the group
Removed by an adminAn admin or moderatorOnly if they add a noteA notification, if they wrote a note
Removed by Admin AssistA rule, such as a report thresholdNot documented by MetaRemoved section of your content in the group
Removed by FacebookFacebook's Community Standards reviewYesYour Support Inbox

Meta does not publish member-side steps for viewing your own content in a group, and the labels move between app versions, but most versions sort your posts in that group as Pending, Published, Declined and Removed.

Why Was My Facebook Group Post Declined? #

Almost always because it broke a group rule, or matched a rule the admins automated. The common reasons, in rough order of how often they catch business posts:

  • Wrong day or wrong place. Many groups only allow promotions on one day a week or inside a weekly promo thread. A good post on the wrong day gets declined.
  • It looked like an ad. Groups that allow business posts still decline ones that are all offer and no value to members.
  • A link in the body. Admin Assist can decline posts that link to specific sites, and many groups decline links on sight.
  • Off topic for the group. A roofing promo in a parenting group gets declined however well it is written.
  • Duplicate or copy-pasted text. The same paragraph the admins just saw in another group, or posted twice in the queue, reads as spam.
  • Flagged as false. Admin Assist can automatically decline posts that third-party fact-checkers rated false.

Read the group's rules before your next attempt. They are in the About section, and many groups also pin them as a Featured post. If you run a group yourself, our guide to writing Facebook group rules that work shows the rules admins use to decide.

Why Was My Post Declined Automatically or Immediately? #

The group uses Admin Assist, and your post matched one of its decline criteria. According to Meta's Admin Assist help page, a post is declined automatically if it meets any of the criteria the admins chose, so no person ever looked at it. The documented criteria include posts Facebook identifies as spam, posts that link to sites the admins listed, and posts fact-checkers rated false.

Meta added comments, account-age and link criteria to Admin Assist in June 2021, along with feedback so authors can edit and resubmit. If the admins enabled that feedback, you see why your post was declined, and the fix is usually obvious: remove the link, or move the post to the promo thread.

💡
Declined with feedback? Use it

Feedback is the admins telling you exactly what to change. Fix that one thing and resubmit once. Posting the same text again unchanged tells them you did not read it.

Why Does My Facebook Group Post Keep Getting Removed? #

If the same kind of post keeps disappearing after it goes live, one of three things is happening.

Admins are removing it. Meta's page on removing posts says the admin selects which group rules the post broke and can add a note. You are notified only if they add one, and you can then see the rules and the note for 14 days, attributed to an anonymous admin. No note means you may never know why.

Members are reporting it. Admin Assist can remove posts automatically once they reach a number of reports the admins set. A post can be fine by the rules and still disappear because enough members find it unwelcome. That is a signal about fit, not wording.

Facebook is removing it. If Facebook decides the post breaks Community Standards, it removes it and tells you in your Support Inbox, where you can request a review. Repeated removals add strikes, and strikes lead to restrictions such as not being able to post in groups for a while; our guide on why you can't post in a Facebook group lists Meta's strike ladder.

⚠️
Removals can turn into a suspension

Admin Assist can automatically suspend members who had several posts or comments removed within 24 hours. If a post was just removed, do not repost it in that group the same day.

What Should I Do After a Post Is Declined or Removed? #

Work out who decided, then respond to that, not to the general unfairness of it.

  1. Check where the post ended up. Declined, removed by the group, or a notice in your Support Inbox from Facebook. Each needs a different response.
  2. Read any feedback or note. If there is one, it names the rule. Fix that specific thing.
  3. Reread the group rules. Look for promo days, link rules and topics the group does not allow.
  4. Ask once, politely, if you are unsure. Admins answer a short, specific question far more often than a complaint.
  5. Resubmit a changed version, or move on. If the group simply does not accept business posts, no rewrite will fix that. Spend your effort on groups that welcome you.
  6. For Facebook removals, request a review from your Support Inbox if you believe it was a mistake.

A question to an admin that is easy to answer:

"Hi James, my post about our fall gutter cleaning special was declined this morning. Is there a day or thread where business posts are welcome here? I'd rather follow the group's format than keep guessing."

How to Stop Getting Declined Across Many Groups #

When you post in one group, a decline is a conversation with one admin. When you post an offer to 40 groups, declines are a pattern, and the pattern tells you something: which groups welcome your posts, which ones never will, and whether your post itself looks like spam.

Three habits cut decline rates in every group. Write each group its own version, because admins and spam filters both recognize the identical paragraph. Keep the link in a comment, not the post; see our guide to the link in first comment. And post where business posts are welcome, on the day they are welcome, which our guide to promoting your business in Facebook groups covers in detail.

Build all three habits into every campaign

PilotPoster is Facebook group marketing software: plan in the web dashboard, and its Chrome extension publishes from your own logged-in browser to the groups you have joined. Each group gets its own AI-written version of your post, your link goes in an automatic first comment, and your posting report shows the live link for every post that went through and the reason for any that did not.

Then let the results prune your list. Group Intelligence scores every group on how reliably your posts go through, so the groups that decline you every week are obvious, and Safety Autopilot pauses a group automatically when it stops accepting posts. You spend your posts on groups that publish them.

Frequently Asked Questions #

What does declined mean on a Facebook group post? #

An admin, a moderator or the group's Admin Assist rules rejected the post while it was waiting for approval. It was never visible to other members.

Does Facebook notify you when a group post is declined? #

Meta does not document a notification for every decline. Admins can choose to decline with feedback, and Admin Assist rules can include a message to the author. Otherwise, check the Declined section of your content in the group.

Do you get notified when an admin removes your group post? #

Only if the admin adds a note. You then see the rules you broke and the note for 14 days, from an anonymous admin. Without a note, the post simply disappears.

Why was my Facebook group post declined immediately? #

The group uses Admin Assist, and your post matched one of its decline criteria, such as a link to a site the admins blocked or a post Facebook identified as spam. No person reviewed it.

Can I repost a declined post in a Facebook group? #

Yes, but fix the reason first. Resubmitting the same text unchanged usually gets the same answer, and repeated declines or removals can lead to a suspension in that group.

Post Where You're Welcome, and Know Where You're Not #

PilotPoster gives every group its own version of your post, puts the link in the first comment, and reports exactly which groups published it.

  • You hear about an admin removal only if the admin adds a note, visible for 14 days.
  • Facebook removals land in your Support Inbox, where you can request a review; repeated ones add strikes.
  • Several removals in 24 hours can trigger an automatic suspension in that group.
  • Fix the specific reason before resubmitting, and drop groups that never accept business posts.
